- Bachelor degree in Physical Therapy; Master´s degree in Biomedical Engineering; PhD granted by University of Bergen, Norway; and Postdoctoral internship at Department of Pharmacology at the University of Sao Paulo;

- Full professor at Nove de Julho University, where he is the head of the Laboratory of Phototherapy and Innovative Technologies in Health (LaPIT) and supervises several Postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. candidates and master degree students;

- Visiting professor at the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Bergen, Norway (2018-2023);

- Associate Professor at the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Bergen, Norway (2024);

- Currently Dr. Leal-Junior has over 150 scientific papers in the photobiomodulation field published in international peer-reviewed jour­nals (indexed by Pubmed/Medline). He has published 50 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to the date, becoming the researcher that has authored more RCTs on photobiomodulation in the world;

- Member of the editorial board of Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine and Laser Surgery, and of the Brazilian Journal of Physical Therapy;

- Since January 2015, Dr. Leal-Junior is a recipient of the Research Productivity Award (level 1D) given by Brazilian Council of Research and Development (CNPq);

- Lead Researcher for Multi Radiance Medical (Solon – OH, USA) since 2013;

- Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the World Association for Photobiomodulation Therapy - WALT (2016-2024);

- Scientific Director of the World Association for Photobiomodulation Therapy - WALT (2021-2024).
